Park Fit for Defense of Opening Major

South Korea's Grace Park declared herself fit to defend the Kraft Nabisco Championship, although she said her back was very sore after completing Wednesday's 18-hole Pro-am.

The 26-year-old pulled out of the final round of last week's LPGA tournament in Phoenix with a back muscle injury and had not hit a shot since Saturday.

"I started out okay but after about five holes I was hitting it 20-yards shorter than normal and then it was about 30-yards by the time I finished," Park said.

"On the back nine I was needing about two clubs more for every shot so my game's certainly not in perfect shape.

"My back is very sore and now I'm going to go and get some more treatment and, hopefully, I will feel better tomorrow," she added.

"I'm wearing a back brace to try and ease some of the pain and, whatever happens this week I'm going to take a five week break and try to get really well and fit."

The Kraft Nabisco Championship, the opening major of the women's season, begins Thursday.

Park won the title last year by one stroke from compatriot Aree Song. - Reuters
